Sealing your concrete with NewLook’s SmartSeal or SharkSeal helps protect the surface and keep it looking fresh. The process is simple when you have the right tools and follow a few basic steps.

What You Need

Before you start, prepare these supplies:

  • SmartSeal or SharkSeal

  • NewLook applicator brush with pole

  • 3–5 gallon bucket

  • Optional: pump-up sprayer and filters

Before You Begin

A few things matter before applying the sealer:

  • Prep the concrete. Make sure the surface is clean and properly prepared. If you need help with prep, check the NewLook prep guide.

  • Check stain dryness. If you recently applied NewLook stain, confirm it is fully dry and cured. Follow the product’s cure-time instructions.

  • Mind the temperature. For exterior surfaces, the concrete and outdoor temperature should be between 50°F and 90°F.

Step 1: Pour and Load Your Applicator

Pour a few inches of sealer into the bucket.
Assemble your brush or roller. Dip the bristles into the sealer so they are lightly coated. Avoid overloading the applicator.

Step 2: Apply the Sealer in Thin Coats

Start applying the sealer in a figure-8 motion.
Use the natural lines in the concrete to break the area into manageable sections.
Apply very thin coats—the product goes a long way, and thin layers help avoid streaks or puddles.

Step 3: Let It Dry and Apply the Second Coat

Allow the first coat to dry completely.
Once dry, apply a second thin coat using the same pattern.
Let the sealer cure fully. Wait 7–10 days before driving or placing heavy loads on the surface.

When to Reseal

Reseal your concrete every 1–2 years, depending on traffic, weather, and wear. Before resealing, power-wash the surface so the new coat bonds well.

Sealing concrete becomes straightforward with the right tools and steps. This process helps protect your surface and keeps it looking clean and durable.
