A Simple Guide to Mixing and Applying It on Stamped Concrete
TiqueWash™ is a water-based, translucent antiquing colorant designed to create a natural, multi-tone finish on textured or stamped concrete. It settles into the low areas of the surface to give that classic, aged, two-tone look.
What TiqueWash™ Does
-
Adds depth and contrast to stamped concrete
-
Settles darker in textured lows
-
Restores faded stamped surfaces
-
Works well as a subtle or bold antiquing layer
How to Mix TiqueWash™
Mixing is simple:
-
Add 1–3 scoops of TiqueWash powder into a bucket.
-
One scoop is usually enough for standard color strength.
-
Two or three scoops give a richer, darker tone.
-
Add 1 gallon of water.
-
Mix thoroughly until the powder is fully dissolved.
Keep the mixture stirred throughout the project. This keeps the pigment suspended and prevents color inconsistencies.
How to Apply TiqueWash™
Prep the Surface
It helps to lightly pre-moisten the unsealed concrete with clean water.
This slows absorption, lets the color move more evenly, and prevents streaking.
Load the Brush
Submerge a NewLook applicator brush or a soft push broom into the mixture and agitate.
Apply Liberally
Spread the TiqueWash evenly across the surface.
-
Work in full, connected sections.
-
Avoid leaving isolated patches untreated.
Use a brush or a rag to add more TiqueWash to any dry spots.
Keep Moving
TiqueWash naturally runs off high points and settles into low textures.
This is what creates the antiqued, two-tone effect.
Avoid Touch-Up Strokes After the First Coat
Touching up small areas once the first coat starts drying can leave visible brush marks.
If this happens, lightly mist water over the area and blend it out.
Add a Second Coat (Optional)
More coats create a darker, richer antique finish.
You can also combine complementary TiqueWash colors for a natural slate-style look.
Seal the Surface
Once the TiqueWash is completely dry:
-
Apply NewLook SmartSeal™ or another compatible sealer.
-
The sealer will deepen and enhance the color.
TiqueWash™ is a simple way to revive worn stamped concrete and bring back dimension and character. You can also mix multiple colors to create a more natural, layered stone appearance.
